BREAKING AWAY FROM ADDICTION (Seeking The Truth)
Sister Torera rather than being mad at me when she caught me in my shameful act, prayed with me and took me through the word of God. I was amazed at her maturity and how she hadn’t mentioned it to my parents even till date. She invited me to her church the following Sunday and my first meeting at her church took the drastic turn for the good in my life.
“Sinners, turn! Why will ye die?
God your maker, asks you why
God who did, your souls retrieved
Died Himself that ye might live
Will you let Him die in vain?
Crucify the Lord again
Why ye ransom would again
Will you sight his grace and die?”
This was the congregational hymn as led by the choral group before the minister of God mounted the pulpit for the sermon.
“Today I bring before you a message from the Lord titled “Breaking the Spell of Masturbation”
Masturbation is a common practice among both the young and old, married and singles. But the question before us today is if it is Godly or ungodly. Some medical practitioners say that it’s healthy and has no negative effect. Some accept the practice based on the fact that it helps to reduce some sexually transmitted diseases like HIV & AIDS, others believe that it makes an individual know their sexual emotional ability.”
I adjusted my sitting position. I became uncomfortable in my seat. Had the Holy Spirit followed me here to report me to the minister of God or why is it today of all days he had to speak on what I’m battling with? I hope he didn’t call me out and disgrace me. I cried silently.
“Many people have concluded that since the bible did not mention masturbation it means it’s not a sin. I Thessalonians 4:2-8 says “For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him.
The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. God did not call us to be impure but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit”.(NIV)
Beloved from the scripture it is clear that masturbation is an unholy act that the bible condemned. When you masturbate, automatically you have lost control over yourselves because you are being influenced by your imagination and lust of your eyes. From the text, it was stated clearly that we should avoid sexual immorality which means having control over our body.
In Mathew 5:28 Jesus said that by mere looking out a woman lustfully you have sinned already even though you have not had sex with her, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart”(NIV). So tell me if looking lustfully can cause sin, what about sexual imagination because that is the starting process of masturbation. Those that masturbate know that most of the time they have to engage in pornographic movies in other to gain their so-called satisfaction.
In Ephesians 5:3 “But among you, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”(NIV) Masturbation is a secretly cleverly committed sin, and it is high time you stopped it and save yourself eternal damnation in the last day.”
Why, exactly, is masturbation sinful? Most importantly, just like any other sin, because it violates God’s holiness. Masturbation is against God, against His ways and His purposes for how men and women are to relate to one another in a marital union that reflects the relationship of Christ to the Church.
Masturbation is also sinful because it compromises us. We are made in God’s image. We are meant to glorify Him in every aspect of our lives, and masturbation hinders us in this mission in two principal ways—by polluting our minds and by inclining us to isolation.
Masturbation simply cannot fulfill God’s design for sexuality, and thus has no place in the life of one who calls himself/herself a Christian.
The man of God was bringing his sermon to an end when he started moving towards my direction. What he was coming to do I knew not. If I had the ground open up, I would hide therein because he had just mentioned my name!
