TWISTED PATH (Episode 15)
Mohammed was jolted out of slumber by the incessant ringing of his phone, the room was pitch dark but thanks to phone’s backlight, he was able to find it and picked the call.
“Hello, who is it?” He asked.
“They have found you, you need to run.” Said the voice from the other side.
“What are you talking about?” He asked in confusion.
“They are coming to kill you. get out of the house now.” The voice yelled and the line went dead.
He switches on the light, got out of bed and looked outside the window. Truly, he saw a car pulled over and two masked men with guns came down and broke in. Swiftly he dressed, picked up his loaded pistol and dashed out of the door. He was about descending through the stairs when he saw them aim at him, it was only by luck that the bullet missed.
Changing direction, he headed back into the room, locked the door and jumped out of window dropping on a flower. He got up immediately and ran into his car. Realizing he couldn’t get the car key which was lying on the table in the sitting room, he decided to hotwire his way around the ignition. The car roared to life and he put it in motion with immediate effect. The two guys ran out of the house, entered their car which followed Mohammed.
When Mohammed checked his rearview mirror and noticed he was being trailed, he increased the speed. Soon, the men behind him started spraying bullets and he swerved the car left and right to evade them. Mohammed managed to fire a few shots back and luckily, one of his bullets hit the driver. The car spined out of control and flipped down a slope by the roadside. Mohammed stopped his car, alighted and approached the crashed car with a gun in hand.
One of the car’s occupants who had flown out during the crash lay dead on the floor. Mohammed removed the mask on the face and was surprised to realize that she was no one else but her dear Fatima. He clung to her body crying profusely and shouting her name.
Mohammed was shaken out of sleep by one of the guys. He scanned his environment and realized he was still in the terrorist’s house, he quickly comports himself.
“What is it?” He asked.
“You were shouting in your sleep. Who the hell is Fatima?” The guy asked.
“What are you talking about?” Mohammed asked feigning innocence.
“Just keep your nightmares to yourself, let me sleep in peace.” The guy said before going back to his bed.

It’s been over six hours since Mohammed had gone and Fatima was already feeling bored. She had tried all sorts of things to get rid of the boredom but nothing worked. How long was she supposed to sit down and wait? Since he had successfully infiltrated the terrorist’s group, would she still be staying in the safe house?
With all these questions bulging in her mind, Fatima decided to place a call through to Mr. Clement.
“Agent Fatima, what’s the problem?” Asked Clement.
“I don’t know what am still doing here sir.”
“I beg your pardon,” Clement said.
“I have got nothing to do here, why don’t you let me return to the agency.”
“You need to stay put and await further instruction.”
“But how do you expect me to stay here all alone. It’s unfair.” She complained.
“Young lady, you need to understand something, this operation is bigger than any one of us and if you should do anything to screw it up am going to make life unbearable for you.” He threatened.

Mohammed was just coming out of the shower the next morning when he ran into Jamal who was taking a pee in the same bathroom.
“Morning Mohammed, hope you had a great night?” Jamal greeted.
“Yes, thanks.” He replied.
“I was told you had a nightmare, hope it’s not too disturbing.”
“Not at all.”
“Ok, I hope you can still remember the way to the house you were in?” Jamal asked.
“What? Which house?” Mohammed asked confusingly.
“I mean the place where you woke up.” Jamal clarified.
“Oh yes, I think I can,” Mohammed answered suspiciously.
“Fair enough, we would need to pay that beautiful nurse of yours a visit.”
Mohammed was shocked to the bone by the statement, he had thought Jamal was joking the previous day.
“But I thought we were heading for the base.” He said trying to divert the conversation.
“We are going to the base right after she has been taken care of. Would you be having any problem with that?” Jamal asked with his eyes burrowing into Mohammed’s looking for any trace of sympathy.
“She knows too much, we must leave no loose end,” Mohammed spoke with courage.
“Alright, we leave in the next hour.” Jamal exited the bathroom leaving Mohammed in dilemma.
