Child Abuse

The term child abuse goes beyond physical abuse of Children

It deals with the behavior of parents, caregivers, other adults or older adolescents that tend to be outside the norms of conduct and entails a substantial risk of causing physical or emotional harm to a child or young person ……..these behaviors might be intentional or unintentional and can include acts of neglect and abuse

According to the WHO (world health organization), child abuse is viewed as all forms of physical or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, commercial or other forms of exploitation resulting in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, survival, development or dignity

The consequences of this maltreatment can be really devastating its effects comes in both physical, psychological and cognitive forms
with the physical consequences ranging from minor injuries to severe brain damage or even death

Psychological consequences range from chronic low self-esteem to severe dissociative states, on the other hand, the cognitive effect of the abuse range from attentional problems and learning disorders to severe organic brain syndromes also known as organic brain disease or disorder.

Behaviourally the consequences of child abuse range from poor peer relations all the way to extraordinarily violent behaviors.
thus the consequences of child abuse not only affects the victims but also the society in which they live in.

On a quest to curb this menace we all have to be actively involved yes all of us including you and me.

Most of us here would assume that it doesn’t happen where we live, some of us may not have even come across children who are victims.
But make no mistake about this.

Child abuse is happening all around us ….. Children in this very city we are in, children in this very country we live in are all victims of this horrific crime.

The perpetrators may be your colleagues at work, members of your church, your neighbors, you name them ..some do it out of ignorance but we can stop this menace
Well yes, the mountain is kinda big but together we can move it,
Together we can make that difference

Well on a quest to curb child abuse in our today society I’ve drafted a couple of ways we can try to solve this problem

Actually, I view it in two aspects

It’s no doubt that provision of enlightenment and resources will in a way stop child abuse
Cause when closely looked into we’ll notice that some parents, caregivers, and adults commit child abuse without even knowing it, so enlightening them on the aspect of child care and parenting strategies or helping with economic support and stability during times of difficulty.

Research has shown that violence against children can be reduced when parents and families are properly informed and equipped with strategies, support, and skills when caring for children.
Still under the preventive aspect raising awareness and supporting the children would actually go a long way towards stopping child abuse

Knowledge is power and awareness brings advocacy. Informing those around you about the realities of child abuse, be it in your workplace, where you exercise makes them aware of the situation and realities of child abuse thus turning them into advocates as well.
Don’t just raise awareness also support the children put in good words for them portray yourself as an icon worth emulating because children are great imitators

The second stage is quite simple more like identify then take relevant action though it’s quite difficult to identify when a child is being abused because the signs are not always visible to the eye but when you eventually notice don’t just sit back with the notion that it’s none of your business rather make a move alert the relevant authorities

To cut the long story short I need your help to see that this menace is stopped
Let’s come together and save a child today
let’s come together and create an abuse-free society

Well Woman
