FICTION: NEOPHYTE

FICTION: NEOPHYTE

Neophyte writers tend to believe that there is something magical about ideas and that if they can just get a hold of a good one, then their futures are ensured.

— Lynn Abbey

“I don’t believe in God!”

Mila shouted, unable to keep her thoughts at bay, then looked around. She was in a club, and no one noticed her outburst. Some turned to look at her, but she was mostly ignored.

She was angry.

Mad.

Sad.

What God took it all away?

Desert you when you needed him the most?

And took away your mother?

**

It had never being particularly rosy for Mila, but she and her family, that was her sister and her mother, had managed. Three square meals may never have been available, but at least, each day, God provided for them.

That was what she thought.

It was what she was taught.

Now, she knew it was their hard work only that kept them going. There was no God involved in that.

Just as there was no God when her house burnt, with her sister in it, and her mother died in a car crash on the same day, after coming from a ministration, on the same day.

God.

What a joke!

“Well, you definitely sound convinced about that!”

Brought back to the present, Mila turned, and was face to face, okay more like face to chest with this guy. She tipped her head back, and was delighted to see a great face, with a dimpled smile.

Interested, she shifted back to take him all in.

“Hi. I’m Phil.”

He said, in a deep sexy voice, that drew her in

“Hello Phil.”

She looked boldly at him, a small smile curving her lips, and in his eyes, she saw the entrance to this new life.

This new belief.

The true religion.

Freedom.
